Bedroom Redo Pt. 1

One of the indoor projects we wanted to check off the list first this winter, was our master bedroom.  It was our girls' shared bedroom for a few years. We decided to switch back rooms with them because I was feeling awfully claustrophobic in their, much smaller, older bedroom. We used the months of November and December to gather ideas and to find the motivation to do another DIY. ;)

We primed the walls first because they were a deep purple and pink. Next, came the most labor intense part...ripping up old carpet that had been GLUED down. Believe me when I say, every square inch of that carpet had glue. It took us hours to get that carpet off.  We even had to start using a shovel to scrape all the pieces that would not come off. Oh the agony!!

Just looking at that picture makes me cringe! The only way to get it off was by small sections at a time. (insert me shuddering and adding a little drama!)

After every speck of carpet was removed, Dustin installed two closet doors and the main door.
I painted the upper part of the room Gentle Rain by Behr.
All the trim that was not going to stay was primed and painted white. This included the trim around the windows and entrance to the room. We bought new trim for the doors and base boards, which were all painted white.

Another detail we added, a few weeks before we ripped out the carpet, was planking to the main wall. This is my favorite part! It really adds a pop to the bedroom, which you will see later.

We wanted to stay away from carpet because of our dog, Mello. It is so hard trying to keep carpet clean, and smelling fresh, when you own a dog that just has a "stink" about him.
So we went with a laminate hardwood flooring we found at Lowes. It goes well with the existing flooring throughout our house, yet has a contrast that sets this room apart.

This is where I am going to leave you. I will be back with more pictures soon.

Have a great day!
